Can You Live Without Coconut Oil?

In my opinion, the answer is obviously, no. But I cannot be naive to the fact that many people, including myself at one time, did not truly understand this very simple household ingredient that most often gets pushed to the back of the panty. The true magical, somewhat secretive, and truly versatile qualities that coconut oil possesses are truly unfounded and have changed my life completely [for the better].

My Love Affair With Coconut Oil

Throughout my teenage years I constantly struggled with acne. For the majority of my teens and into early adulthood the blemished covered my shoulders, back, and down onto my arms. It was horrible, to say the least. I was constantly trying to cover my arms, wearing long sleeves even in the hottest summer months. I always thought to myself that if I could change one thing about myself, it would be to wish away my acne. I tried everything to clear up my shoulders and back but I consistently came up short. Prescription creams and pills, strange skin peels and irritating astringents. Nothing even came close to healing my ever so irritating condition. The battle was 1-0 and my ache was winning. I was just about to give in, give up, and just resign to the fact that I was never going to look good in a tank top, sleeveless dress, or bathing suit on the beach. It was disheartening, but I was done fighting...

And then there was Coconut Oil

During the beginning of the winter of 2013 I was Google-ing [which apparently isn’t a word] natural remedies for dry skin. Over and over again my search engine would bring me to sites about coconut oil. I did not know much about it, but according to all of these websites and patient reviews, it seems to be some kind of miracle cure for dry skin. I was 22, and still believed everything I read on the internet, so just like that, I invested in my first jar of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. At this time I still had no idea what this $12 jar of solid white substance had in store for me, but I was quickly going to find out.

Over the next 4-6 weeks I used coconut oil as lotion exclusively. I discontinued all of my other lotions, creams, hair products, and used coconut based body soap in the shower. When I say I was absolutely astonished…well, I was absolutely astonished! In just 4-ish weeks my acne was gone. And when I say gone, I mean GONE! No redness or irritation. No new pimples, no old pimples. Just soft, white, clear skin. The scars from years of fighting with these nasty little buggers were still exposed, but to my surprise, these soon would begin to fade away. I was cured. 100% acne free and it was all because of this all natural, organic, from the earth, product. It was not an expensive prescription drug, it was not an over the counter topical cream, it was not a toxic astringent or a drying agent. It was coconut. COCONUT!

Over the course of the next few months I could not help but spread the word! I was so thrilled and truly impressed with the improvements this product had made to my life I wanted everyone to experience it. Aside from clearing my acne, it made a planters wart on my foot vanish in 2 months [with repetitive applications daily]. It made my hair silky, my skin radiant, and my teeth whiter!

To this day, three years later, I am just as in love with this product as I was the first day I put it on my skin. The difference in my overall health is beyond belief. Please if you can spare $10-$15, invest in something that has 100% return on investment. Coconut Oil will change your life.

Here are some easy ways to incorporate Coconut Oil into your life and daily routine;

1. Add 1-2 Tablespoons into your daily cup of tea or coffee

2. Put it on your skin; literally, everywhere. [warning: it will make your skin ungodly soft] Even though it is oil, it will not leave your skin greasy or oily. It absorbs into your pores quickly, leaving soft, dry, moisturized skin.

3. Swish 1-2 Teaspoons around in your mouth for 10-20 minutes per day for gum health and white, healthier teeth.

This is called oil pulling, also known as "kavala" or "gundusha." It is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 20 minutes. This action draws out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health! It sounds time consuming, but making lifestyle changes to improve your health take some time and commitment. If it is going to improve your life; make it a priority.
